Class fees and policies: Payment of class fee is required at the time of class registration. Please note that class fees are Non-Refundable. To ensure that you receive the most value out of each class session, required homework must be completed as assigned. All class materials required can be purchased at 10% off.

Beginning Knitting Basics I

A 1-night class in beginning basics. Learn to cast on, knit, purl & cast off. We will also learn to do ribbing. It is suggested that if you are a BRAND NEW knitter, that you take Beginner Basics I and II. Cost $30 includes all materials

Beginning Knitting Basics II

A 1-night class in building on the Basics I class. We will learn to do two or three types of increases and decreases and learn how to do yarn overs. Cost $30 includes all materials

Ravelry 101

Ravelry is an online community of knitters and crocheters - second in size only to Facebook! We use Ravelry on a daily basis, and want to introduce you to the unlimited world of information that is available to members. Membership is free, but we would like to help you learn to navigate this amazing site. Come take a guided tour through Ravelry and learn how you can use it to enhance your knitting/crocheting experience.

Please bring your laptop, IPad, or tablet, and paper/pencil if you want to take any notes.  If possible, go to www.Ravelry.com and sign up for a free account before you come to class.  If not, we'll be glad to help you with that. Cost $10

Sock on Circs

 Learn to knit socks without the difficulty of DPNs! Sock construction on 2 circular needles is a wonderful thing. It is my favorite and I know you’ll love knitting your socks this way too. If you have been afraid to knit socks, we would love to put you at ease. Cost $35 + materials

Learn to Spin with a Drop Spindle

Using a spindle to create yarn from fiber preceded the use of the spinning wheel by centuries but this ancient art is still popular based on its portability, availability of fine fibers, and a beautiful array of handmade spindles. This class will take the mystery out of how to create beautiful yarn using a drop spindle. Cost $45

Materials:  Class fee includes fiber and a spindle.  You can also bring your own spindle if you have one. 10% off additional fiber purchased in connection with class.

Nuno Felting: Make a beautiful silk and wool scarf

Scarves: many of us don't leave home without them. They are imperative in the winter but they can also simply be fashionable. In this class you will learn the modern wet felting technique called Nuno which creates a durable, elegant and warm material by combing wool with silk or other light weight fabric. Nuno felting is especially exciting because it is a bit like painting with wool on a silk canvas with an unpredictable and exciting outcome. Come with a sense of adventure and patience! Cost $50 includes all materials

This class will be held outdoors and there is a good chance you will get wet. Please dress appropriately.

Tour de Fleece Days 5-7

A question for all my Midwest friends - Are you surviving the heat? 11 days in a row over 90* is way too much!! We don't have any air conditioning so it's been a rough week and a half.

I've been sitting and hugging the fan this week. I can't knit at all, but spinning hasn't been too bad. I have a small desk fan that I "liberated" from my teenage daughter's room and if I keep it blowing on my hands I can spin without the fiber sticking too much to my hands.

This is a good thing since the Tour de Fleece is still going strong. I showed you the first yarn I finished and yesterday I was able to complete my second. I love this yarn so much!

I had some leftover batts from a spin-a-long that we did back in the Spring. They were orange with a bit of red and called Tulips. Orange normally isn't my color, but these were calling my name.

 

They took me 3 days to complete and I love this yarn. Oh wait, I already said that. It's got lots of angelina which gives this skein a real sparkle. Watching it hanging out on the line catching the sun, made it look breathtaking!

Are you spinning in the Tour de Fleece? How's is your spinning going?

Tour de Fleece Days 1-4

The Tour de Fleece has started! If you aren't sure what the Tour de Fleece is, it's a spinning (as in yarn) competition that happens right alongside the Tour de France. A lot of people spin their yarn while watching the race, but unfortunately we don't get the race on our TV.

I have been spinning lots of yarn though. Over the last few days I've finished one yarn and started another. That's a big deal for me because I can never seem to finish a yarn in less than a week during other times of the year.

Days 1, 2 and 3 I spent spinning the singles for my very first ever 3-ply yarn.

Each one of those bobbins took me about 3 hours. At our house that was several episodes of Merlin and Star Trek.

Yesterday was day 4 and I finished the yarn! It's a rainbow gradient which means it starts out red and by the end it has gone through the rainbow and ended at purple. The colors do not repeat. The yarn weighs in at 3.95 oz., contains 341 yards and is about a sport weight. It's made from superwash merino, bamboo and nylon so would be great for socks or anything else you'd feel like not worrying about hand washing.

I also managed to start a second skein of yarn. This is from a batt that contains everything but the kitchen sink I think. There's alpaca, merino, silk, and a whole bunch of other things. I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow.
